All about the Sax

You are interested in the saxophone and would like to learn more about it? This page provides you with a first overview and contains the most important information about the saxophone, its variations, buying advice, and famous players..

The Saxophone

The saxophone, although mostly made of brass, belongs to the woodwind family. This is due to a small reed attached to the mouthpiece, whose vibrations produce the sound. Reeds are made from cane and are available in various thicknesses. Softer thicknesses (1.5-2.5) are easier to play than harder ones and are therefore well-suited for beginners. There are different types of saxophones, distinguished by their shape, size, and range. The four most common instruments are the soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. Alto and tenor saxophones are particularly well-suited for beginners because they are generally easier to play. Since the alto saxophone is smaller and lighter, it is the ideal instrument for children to begin with. What many people don't know: Saxophones can be curved or straight. The soprano saxophone is similar in shape to the clarinet. There are also lesser-known saxophones such as the sopranino, bass, contrabass saxophone, and the C-melody saxophone.

The purchase of instruments

When buying an instrument, there are several things to consider regarding the model, quality, and price. Many music stores also offer instrument rentals. This allows you to try out whether the instrument appeals to you without having to spend a large sum of money. If you have any questions about buying an instrument or any other saxophone equipment,
I'd be happy to advise you here or during a lesson.
